Is it possible to train too hard when doing my tempo run?
Hi. I’m a 34yr old male who has always been active and fit, classic ectomorph. I recently purchased a heart rate monitor for training purposes and my beats per minute after a tempo run makes me wonder if I could be over doing it, or if I’m just very fit and on the right track. I’m on a 16 week 1/2 marathon program from runners world that includes running three times a week; easy, speed, long. When I do my tempo runs I really push myself to achieve the stated goals. My effort level would be about an 8 out of 10, Yes/No questions I could answer, no conversation. After the run I feel euphoric and great, and within a minute or so my heart rate is back to a normal level. Then next day I feel fine. My resting pulse is around 44 beats per minute (bpm). My goal is to eventually qualify for the Boston marathon.
Thanks for any input.
Here are my mile splits from the last run.
Mile Minutes Avg bpm Max bpm
1 00:07:10 174 183
2 00:07:13 185 190
3 00:07:16 191 192
4 00:07:11 195 198
Summary 00:28:50 186 198
comfortably finished my 1st marathon in a 9:15 pace a few years ago. Could easily cover 13.1m in a 8:30 pace today. Goal is to get faster without causing damage.

Accurate Heart Rate Monitor watch needed!!?
Can someone please provide a link or info to a heart rate monitor watch that calculates steps, calories and heart rate with entering in your height and weight? I have a Sportline watch that I bought at Walmart for 0 that doesnt require me entering in my height and weight and I am a little uncertain about the accuracy of the calories burned reading. It uses pulse technology.

Anybody know of this game?
There’s this old robot game i’m looking for that was available for the Sega Genesis. You could customize your robot before you started playing the game, and the intro featured this ship going through space that was eventually struck down. It later showed a heart rate monitor fail, then restart with square pulses as opposed to the triangular ones.

Heart Beating Very Fast?
I am a 16 year old male, 5′10", 165lbs. I am very fit(I lift weights just about every day). One day for some random reason I counted my pulse while I was watching tv, it was 130BPM, I though that was odd because I am sitting on the couch. I counted it the next day while I had been on the couch for 20 mins, but its 131. The next day I was going to pay attention to the heart rate monitor on the bike I was using for warm up, and I watched my heart rate go up, and up finally it got 210 and the numbers went to 000(I guess it doesnt go that high?) And when it went this high I was not even pedeling that hard. Every day since I noticed this I watch the heart rate on the machine go up and up until it goes past 210(and I have tried different machines and even a personal heart rate monitor and it still goes that high). What should I do about this? Is it bad?

New onset bradycardia?
For the last ~2 months, I’ve been experiencing bradycardia, HR 45-49. This is new for me, previously I ran about 75 bpm. I bought a fitness heart rate monitor after I noticed the brady (took my pulse because I felt "heavy" in the chest). The heart rate will come up with exercise but even with the most vigorous effort can’t get it above 140 bpm. I’m not an athlete nor especially fit. No dizziness, +/- fatigue. Anyone experience anything similar?

is it bad to have a lower pulse or heart rate when you exercise?
When i was at the gym the other day. I was running on the treadmill and when i put my hands on the heart rate monitor thing, it said 87 as i slowed down to a walk it started to increase up to 118. I thought your heart rate was supposed to be up when you exercised.
i had been running at speed 7 for 20 minutes prior to checking the heart rate thing. i got an 87. then slowed down to a walk and as i was walking my heart rate went up

Possible sources of error in lab?
This experiment was conducted to answer the question “What factors affect heart rate?”. In particular, this experiment endeavoured to find out the effect of mammalian diving reflex on heart rate. In this lab, a girl’s head was submerged in water. While she held her breath and stayed underwater for 20 seconds, her pulse was carefully monitored for any sudden decreases. The dependant variable was heart rate and the independent variable was time, measured in seconds. A heart rate monitor was used to increase accuracy. The girl was asked to repeat this procedure ten times, with the time interval between each “dive” being four minutes. Other constants include the temperature of water (5℃), air pressure, and the mass of the girl. Where could we have made an error?!
