cheat heart rate monitor? *read details*?
ok so i had a genius idea to cheat my heart rate monitor, but im not sure if it will work and im afraid it might fry the monitor… ok so its a monitor that detects electrical pulses to determine heart rate. so i had this idea to strip my ipod headphones to the bare wire, then touch it to the heart rate monitor while i have a custom sound going (pulses that are 140 or so bpm). who thinks this might work (remember i can adjust the electricity going thru it… volume… and speed with my audio editor)? and who thinks this is just impossible? and who thinks this is genius? thanks

Consistently high resting pulse but normal blood pressure?
I have been feeling weak and dizzy off and on for probably 3-4 weeks. I was talking with some friends and one who’s a med student suggested that I go get my blood pressure taken. So I went and it was a little high (124 / 82) but close enough to normal.
My heart rate scared me though. It was 103. I wasn’t nervous or anything. So I got a BP / heart rate monitor and I’ve been watching it, and it’s consistently 90-110. BP fluctuates between 110 / 70 and 130 / 90 ish depending on time of day.
Should I go to the doctor? And what type of doc would I make an appt with? GP?
Forgot to mention: I’m 22 y/o male (otherwise healthy)

Can I take brakes during cardio if I maintain a certain pulse?
When I workout and am at a true cardio zone (80%), a lot of times even higher like 85-90%, sometimes my body forces me to take breaks, not so much the lack of endurance but the muscles I’m working get stiff or tired (my legs on a stationary bike for example). I have a digital real time heart rate monitor and usually what I do is take a break until my pulse drops to a lower ‘fat burning zone’ (65-70%). This usually takes 15-20 seconds… and then I resume and work my way back up to 80%. Anyway, I was just wondering if your pulse is at a certain level is it still working to burn fat or do you need to be in constant motion? If so how much are these brakes hindering any potential results?
Thanks

Good Cycling Heart Rate Monitor?
I’m trying to find a good Heart Rate Monitor for cycling with, I don’t want to just count my pulse, because I’m not good at it and I want to have both hands on the handlebars, I looked on amazon at some watches that do it, but they look like they have chest straps and that looks cumbersome, I really would just like a watch or something like that I can just glance at and know the number- any hints, favorites?

heart rate monitors?
i’ve recently started exercising and i want to start increasing intensity and i want to keep track of my heart rate. some people suggested i just take my pulse myself but sometimes it is very hard to find, sometimes its even hard for the doctors to find it. anyway these people then suggested getting a heart rate monitor. so i wanted to know if anyone can recommend a good heart rate monitor or a site i can go to that will have a nice variety to chose from.
thanks

High resting heart rate in fit 37 yo, no caffeine. Why so high?
I am a 37 yo female.
I walk (brisk) 45-90 minutes 5-7 days a week, do strength training 3x/week.
My resting heart rate before getting out of bed this morning was 81. My sitting heart rate is around 90. Avg HR during brisk treadmill walk last night was 135, max HR during walk was 167. An hour after my walk, my HR was still around 100.
Readings are not taken near sugar intake. I do not consume any caffeine. I am a healthy weight (121 at 5′ 4.75"). I wasn’t worried/anxious during the readings either.
I don’t know what my readings were previously. I just got a heart rate monitor and so only now have checked. I double checked with my pulse to confirm that monitor is correct. Yes, I do know how to take an accurate pulse.
I could understand a higher HR if I was older, overweight, out-of-shape, anxious, taking in stimulants, or using a faulty heart rate monitor.
But why is mine so high?
Thanks,
Tamara
