rapid heart rate, any input welcome. thanks?

hi guys, my blood pressure is near 116/76 almost majority of the time i check it. im concerned with my heart rate though, resting is around 80 bpm when normally it used to be 60-65. when i stand up i feel it races (usually around 95) and when i walk it increases more as well.

this rapid pulse started a few weeks ago during the time i started taking omeprazole (acid reflux apparently), before that i’ve had 2 ekgs done (only when i had palpitations) and results were fine and now im awaiting for my holter monitor results. It just feels unnatural for my pulse to be higher like this when i know the normal rate was around 60-65bpm. any ideas?

thanks
oh by the way, i tried staying off omeprazole for a week and it got a tiny bit better but still exists.

Heart trouble but normal EKG in a 21 year old male?

I had a 24-hour EKG done with a Holter monitor after complaining of a fast heart rate with palpitations. After looking at the test results, my cardiologist said everything looked "normal," but it doesn’t seem normal to me. While resting, my heart rate ranges anywhere from 60 bpm up to 110 bpm and palpitates sometimes. When I get these palpitations, there will be a pause followed by a noticeable "thump," which I have been told is a PVC. But occasionally, it feels like it is fluttering and I sometimes feel a tenderness in my heart muscle–like it’s working too hard and wants to rest. When my heart flutters like this, it feels as though it’s beating out of synch, but when I take my pulse, it feels relatively in synch. This tenderness in my heart makes it feel like it’s ‘bruised’ and it sometimes hurts more than usual (it’s not angina). My question is; could it be possible that there is something wrong with my heart, even though my EKG is supposedly normal? I am so upset about this.

Pulse Ox for vital monitoring?

I am an aid in a hospital, and sometimes I have to transport patients from the emergency room to different areas within the hospital. Sometimes this makes me very nervous with elderly or semi-unconscious people. Would it be ok just for my personal comfort to use the heart rate feature on a battery operated pulse ox just to make sure there ok during transport within the hospital. Would there be downside to using a pulse ox for the first sign of trouble?
Now I understand about chest rise and fall and to look at that, but sometimes its difficult to tell. I also understand that the doctor has evaluated them already and determined that they are stable enough to be transported without a nurse present, but still you never know. Thanks ahead of time.

How can I fool a heart monitor?

I am a 21 year old female.

I have a physical for a very important job in which I am not allowed to exceed a heart rate of 169. I will admit, I am a bit unconditioned, however, I can perform the tasks required of me so easily. However, I have failed this twice because of my heart rate.

I am required to wear a heart monitor (just a simple strap across my chest with a watch on my wrist) and perform the tasks while remaining under the heart rate limit. If I reach the heart rate, the watch beeps and the test is over.

Last time I took this test, the watch registered that I was dead. Flat-lined. It was showing me a heart rate of 0. So, I went to lift the box onto the table to tell the man administering the the test what had happened. Just as I set the box on the table, my watch began to beep, saying I had a heart rate of 195.
Is there a possibility, as well, that the monitor malfunctioned? Because when I placed my finger tips to my pulse, it didn’t seem to be beating that fast.

I’m just wondering if there is a trick I could use to keep my hear rate just slightly lower during my test?

Any help would be appreciated!

How is pulse read in a heart rate monitor?

For example, a treadmill with a heart rate detector. The heart rate detectors, or pulse readers, on a treadmill usually has those metal handlebars where you grip it and reads your pulse. Now I am wondering, how is the pulse read? In other words, does the handlebar sense the beats? or is it something else? perhaps maybe electrical currents going throughout the body? and if it is electrical currents, what is it that detects the electrical currents (chip? name of sensor? something else?)?

In a balanced exercise program do you do 'moderate' or 'vigorous' aerobic exercise? And what is recommended?

I used to go jogging (but it was probably actually running) and after I did it I experienced the ‘runners high’ quite regularly. Recently I purchased an exercise bike and have been doing more reading about how much aerobic exercise I should be doing. Now, I haven’t done it for a while but I started doing it only because I had some digestion problems (abdominal pains after eating) and they have improved a bit since doing the exericse.

According to what I have read I decided to be doing it at 3-4 times a week at 75% of my heart rate and also strength training twice a week for at least 40 minutes to balance it out. One thing that seems consistent in what I read is that you should do slightly more cardio than strength training and this makes a lot of sense and is best for overall fitness. But the problem is I’ve read a couple of places (including the american heart association) that the amount of aerobic I’m doing (which is classified as ‘moderate’) is enough however, since riding my exercise bike I’ve never exerienced the high I get from more intense session (I tried a higher level once and tried to get to 95% of my heart rate -there’s a pulse monitor on my bike- and even though I didn’t get there I felt the high that time) and so I’m concerned I’m not working out intense enough.

I’ve read something today, that if you increase the amount of time- say from 35 minutes to 50 minutes and lower the intensity to make up for the increase in time you will actually lower your cardiovascular fitness. This makes a lot of sense as well. Because intensity is actually very important for strengthening the heart muscle. I don’t want to work out too hard because I want to get the balance right with the strength training I’m doing as well. I’m thinking of changing it to eventually aim for about 40-50 minutes (3 days a week) of ‘vigorous’ as opposed to ‘moderate’ to really get the benefits. Does this sound ok? Or is it too much. It sounds pretty reasonable aim. My main aim is to improve my aerobic fitness and also get stronger in terms of muscle. Is working out at 95% of your heart rate for 50 minutes straight even possible?? I know it’s possible for 75% because I easily do it for 35 minutes. I have also read you can get bowel problems if you run too much (over 90 minutes) and marathon runner experience this. So, I obviously don’t want this to happen either. Anyway, I’m sorry for the length of this and I apologise for being pedantic or sounding like some loser.

thankyou immensely if you if you took the time to read it and I would appreciate answers a lot (preferably from people that are fit and have some personal experience and genuine knowledge).
p.s I do currently 40 minutes of aerobic 3-4 times a week.

heart monitor for exercising?

I am losing weight, eating right, saying my prayers, but im not exercising like I should. Reason? I have a worry I am going to give myself a heart attack.

So question is this, what is a good heart monitor I could wear keep track of my heart rate while I am exercising? I know a lot of people say "Count your pulse", but I heard that it can be flawed. With my weight, I must be very careful.

Good heart monitor. And cheap as possible! :)

Bradycardic Heartrate and PVC's?

I am a 31y/o male in great shape (Exercise 5x a week and body fat of 13%) with no history or family history of heart disease, but I have recently noticed something that makes me worry a bit about my heart rhythm. My resting pulse rate is in the low 50’s sometimes dropping into the high 40’s and is accompanied with PVC’s sometime in the rate of one every three to four beats. I have no discomfort or shortness of breath, or anything else that I would believe to be a symptom of a heart related issue. I have just began noticing an irregular almost "Double-beat" when I monitor my pulse occurring every few seconds. When in the gym I often can push myself to a heart rate of 180 for extended periods without difficulty. I have had a stress test for work as recent as three years ago and an ECG done a few months ago for a physical, both of which showed the PVC’s but I was told "Oh it’s likely your just tired or had to much caffeine" is that the likely case or do I potentially have a problem. I am a Fire Fighter/Paramedic so I know just enough about cardiac issues to be dangerous and try and diagnose myself when things come up but this one has me a little worried.
Also of note, the PVC’s are monofocal and my regular rhythm has completely normal QRS complexs with standard P waves.

I'm Thinking Of Investing In A Cycle…?

The stationary type. So what do I look for when I buy one (apart from the price). I need something that monitors heart rate OR pulse rate, BUT what else should I be looking for??
Do we get folding cycles out there for storage? (coz space is a bit of an issue)…
