Does a heart rate monitor need a chest strap to be accurate?

I can get a Mad Catz Pulse Pak (wow, sounds super-accurate already, no?) off the shelf for just , but is it simply garbage? Do thumb-monitors have any value, or is the chest strap the only way to go?

I’m interested in this because my heart rate goes through the roof when I work out. I don’t need it any other time. Thank you!

Reasons for heart rate monitors not registering pulse well?

Just wondered why a persons pulse does not register very well (if at all) on an HRM. I’ve tried several: chest, wrist, and the HRM’s on treadmills and bikes. None of them seem to register anything except for the chest-type monitors; and even they sometimes do not register or are way off. Is it possible the pulse is just too weak?

Cardiac Event Monitor . . . am I calling in too much?

Okay, so I’ve been wearing this cardiac event monitor since yesterday. It holds up to 4 events, then I call a number and send it to some company. I’ve already called in once with four recordings this morning (one from last night, three this morning) and I’ve recorded another three since then. Basically, I’m wondering if I’m recording/calling in too much? How often do others typically call in their recordings? Does fluttering count or should I just worry about palpitations? I don’t want to be over reacting and calling way too much, but I don’t want to be ignoring events either. What is normal for other people wearing event monitors?

Cardiac Event Monitor?

Next week I am getting a cardiac event monitor due to persistant palpitations that have been driving me crazy. My question is, that my palpitations are like only 1 or 2 beats- by the time I press the button to activate the monitor, it will probably be over. I read some info stating that these monitors record a little before the button was hit and a little bit after, but something else I read said they only record once the button is pushed. Does anyone have experience with these? I would hate to have to keep my hand on that button all day in anticipation!

Taiyi Brand Fetal Heart Doppler Monitor / Have you used one?

I just purchsed a Taiyi brand Fetal Heart Monitor off of ebay. I paid + shipping. It looks just like the doctors one. Plus the company has a refund policy. I am hoping it works! I am 15 weeks!

Have you used this brand monitor?

Plus, where do I buy the gel that works with these monitors?

How can I interpret my cardiac event monitor signal?

I’ve got to wear one of those 30-day event monitors, and I was having a little fun with it. Does anyone know how I might be able to record the audio that I normally send over the phone to look at it on my computer?

Thanks!
I’ve already tried just recording the audio to audacity, and after I switched the view to pitch, I could see the pattern of a heartbeat, but I was hoping to get something a little clearer…you know with P,QRS, T, etc.

What is the best personal gps/heart montitor/workout monitor?

I am looking for the best personal monitor to use in my workouts. I mainly jog and ride bikes in the mountains near home. I have looked at a few of them but I am a little confused. Should I get the gps feature or just the monitors? What about hooking it up to my pc to save the data, does that help or is it just one more thing that doesn’t get done?
