Is it possible to train too hard when doing my tempo run?

Hi. I’m a 34yr old male who has always been active and fit, classic ectomorph. I recently purchased a heart rate monitor for training purposes and my beats per minute after a tempo run makes me wonder if I could be over doing it, or if I’m just very fit and on the right track. I’m on a 16 week 1/2 marathon program from runners world that includes running three times a week; easy, speed, long. When I do my tempo runs I really push myself to achieve the stated goals. My effort level would be about an 8 out of 10, Yes/No questions I could answer, no conversation. After the run I feel euphoric and great, and within a minute or so my heart rate is back to a normal level. Then next day I feel fine. My resting pulse is around 44 beats per minute (bpm). My goal is to eventually qualify for the Boston marathon.

Thanks for any input.

Here are my mile splits from the last run.
Mile Minutes Avg bpm Max bpm
1 00:07:10 174 183
2 00:07:13 185 190
3 00:07:16 191 192
4 00:07:11 195 198
Summary 00:28:50 186 198
comfortably finished my 1st marathon in a 9:15 pace a few years ago. Could easily cover 13.1m in a 8:30 pace today. Goal is to get faster without causing damage.

Rapid heart rate. Need opinions! Doctors cant figure it out?

Hello I have been experiencing some troubling symptoms over the past couple of months now. It is important to let you know that I am 28 weeks pregnant but my OB does not believe it is related, but may be allowing an underlying condition to flare up. The biggest symptom I have noticed is rapid heart rate that happens for no apparent reason. I will be laying on the couch and feel my heart beating out of my chest. I have a hard time getting a full breath and and it takes hours to get my pulse back down to 100. My resting pulse has been anywhere between 90-110 bpm. Sometimes it will go up to 130-150 bpm for no reason at all. It took 3 hours to bring it down last night. The doctor gave me a holter monitor which I will be returning today. I went to the ER. They said they did a test for blood clots and it was elevated so the ran a VQ scan of my lungs, but found no clots. They checked my thyroid (which last week they found to be a little low) and the T4 came back low again. (I started Thyroxine yesterday. The ER doctor said he thinks it is unlikely that this is only the pregnancy and said that the low thyroid would make my heart beat slower if anything. He told me I would have to wait for the results from the Holter monitor and maybe that would tell them something. I have also had swollen neck glands and a swollen gland under my right armpit. Despite the pregnancy I have had frequent bowel movement and seem to get hot flashes and start sweating for no reason. I am constantly tired even more so than for being pregnant my face and fingers are a little swollen but that could be from the pregnancy. If you could give me any answers on this it would be greatly appreciate. I am at a loss of what to do
I am slightly anemic I believe they said 11.3 was my level. which wasn’t too bad. I am on 324 mg of iron a day. I had massive bleeding with the delivery of my daughter so they like to keep an eye on my iron levels.
So you are saying that my heart rate is trying to match the babies? Funny, I actually asked the nurse if that could happen and she said no. I had heard of people who sleep next to each other ending up breathing at the same rate which is why I had asked her that. I cant find anything online about it happening during pregnancy though…

      Help Reading Holter Monitor Results?

I am a 25 year old female and over the last few months my bp and pulse have been low. My normal BP was around 120/78 and resting pulse was always around the 70’s. Lately my bp has been 92/49with a pulse of 50. The Dr. sent me for a ECHO and Holter monitor. I’m not overweight or very active. Had back surgery a year ago and still inactive for now. Any help would be appreciated.

Minimal heart rate is 36 beats per minute, consistent with sinus bradycardia. Average heart rate is 57 beats per minute. Maximun heart rate was 135 beats per minute, consistent with sinus tachycardia. Nine percent of the time, the patient was tachycardia; 61% of the time the patient was bradycardic with a heart rate of less than 60 beats per minute. 1.76 seconds was the longest R-R interval, indicating no significant pauses. There were no ventricular ectopy noted. There was 17 isolated premature atrial contractions noted, no ventricular tachycardia or supraventricular tachycardia noted. Thank you for replies.

Is a pulse rate of 45 too low?

I am a 37 year old male (around 6′ and 13 stone) and hardly ever exercise. I’ve tested pulse on a home BP monitoring machine and over the last week my resting pulse has been in the 43-50 range. Is this too low? I currently suffer from post viral fatigue from a liver virus I had 3 years ago.
